Yeah, EA is in Florida, so that is why that has been my dream job for like a really long time. The thing I want to do is just fix the games and make them better, obviously. I have been a Madden buyer since '94. So I have seen this game improve for years, and years. I just plan to do something with EA.

My brother in law has a hockey game for the GC (don't remember what the title is, but it is an EA product) and I think there are some really nice features in that which Madden could use.

First, I don't like how Madden scouts the collegiate players. The-scout-10-players-at-a-time-through-three-rounds-of-scouting-thing doesn't work for me. In my experience, the first two times you scout someone it doesn't tell you much, and only on the third do you get anything really helpful. For example, I usually get:

1-This kid is as fast as anyone in the league.
2-He has good hands, work on them and they'll be great.
2-He is decent in his routes.
3-The team's coach says he is a crackhead and he was arrested for child molestation last season.

Maybe I'm being a little over-the-top, but my point is usually a player is only as good as his the third time scouting's report. Basically, you have to scout players three times, so you only get to do it with 10 guys.

Now, in the hockey game, they rate players like this:

Speed........A
Str.............C
Agility........A
(etc)

One color means the stat is well scouted, one color shows that it is less certain, and one color would mean it is basically undecided. So if the guy has a well scouted stat, he will probably have right about that when you get to see his "real" stats. If it is one of the other one's, it may be right...or it could be really off. I see this as being more accurate than the Madden, "this guy is fast," report. Especially since in Madden you get to see the player's combine times, so you know if they are quick, fast, slow, or what not.

The other feature I really like is the "potential" stat. It doesn't seem to always hold true (according to my brother anyway), but a player is supposed to progress based on his potential. So, a guy may have good stats but he isn't going to improve much (for example, Mark Clayton or Aaron Rogers in this NFL draft) or he may be a little raw but has the potential to get a lot better (like Alex Smith or Troy Williamson).


I've always kind of thought the Madden series has some real deficiencies, and since this ideas are already used by EA, I think they would be easy to implement. What do you all think?

I got Madden today (sat). I had to work all day so I only ended up playing about 3 quarters of a game but so far it is pretty sweet. The passing takes a bit to get used to, but it seems pretty cool so far. They added a hit stick on offense that works awesome if you use it right. The ball carrier lowers his shoulder and runs over guys. Sorry I am not putting out too much info on it. I am kind of messing around with it right now. If anyone has any specific questions let me know. ill try to check this tomorrow if i get a chance. the game is what you would expect from a madden title though......awesome

Thats because hes bullshitting. EA employees got it today, and they are the firsts to play it. He probably read this thread then acted like he played it. On the release party topic, last year the only people at the store were all footbal fans, some nerdy some not. The gay thing is you are required to wear a jersey or paraphenenalia and then some people are going to eworld and are gonna play it on tvs. The owner is a giants fan and i can't wait to badger him about the albany practices

The games have been in stock since Friday, the thing is they cannot sell them until Monday at midnight, because that is the street date. They did the same with NCAA, they actually got it like a week before NCAA came out, and they couldn't sell it until the street date. So there doing the same thing with madden.

I just saw these guys come in a delivery truck and stock it at the store. WTF?

i am not making this up. a close family friend works at a little store that sells mostly video games. he called me friday night and told me it would be in sat around noon and that i could get it then. i had to agree not to play online or anything until tues which of course i did. if you dont believe me fine, i just thought you guys would like to hear about it if you werent sure whether to get it or not.

i prefer to make my own strategy. I NEVER buy strategy guides. The off chance I get stuck I’ll check an online one. The last time I used one was for silent hill 2 I think and the guide was wrong anyway. I was using the right code according to the guide. So I used every combination (like 500) and got in on the 120th one.

I don't use strategy guides for anything, I got this for free. And if i hadn't got the hard copy i would have just downloaded it

Use sliders to improve the gameplay, it makes the game much more realistic, I used the ones below me, and I had the most realistic game ever in a while.

Well I gave this game a download for PC and I have to say I miss a possible ESPN 2k6. This game has a few major flaws that overshadow the good about it. First is mario running. For those that don't know what that is, its when in Mario you ran into a wall but he kept running, no change at all, he was just like running in place. This is unrealistic and annoying as hell. ESPN fixed this problem in 2002. Its 2005 madden, time to fix it you idiots. Next is passing, I am sorry but passing it deep is near impossible. I went to practice mode and bombed it out to Coles 20 times in a row. He did not catch it a single time. I used bullets, lobs, i lead him away from the defenders, i looked off of him, nothing. Those two problems being fixed would make this game good but now its just an average game that has ruined NFL videogames by buying the liscense and now allowing a challenger (Sega/Take Two) to make a better game. Sigh.

First off... how do I say this... um... ESPN sucks at making video games. Which is why in my opinion is was a definate good thing to take out the garbage on ESPN and Take Two. Thank god ESPN and take two cannot make any more football video games. Too bad they are also getting rid of MVP, and now all I have to play is my old copy of MVP and their crappy version of baseball game next season.

why do u worship EA sports so much? u said how u don't like mainstream but u love a game that isn't as good as its underground counterpart and has to buy its way out? if this was music and some music group did that you would jump all over them and u know it. can't u post something unbiased about EA? anytime someone says anything bad about them u jump to the defense and praise them. how much are they paying u for that?

ESPN is now a liscense of EA anyway. So sayi9ng ESPN cant make games is stupid. It's take-two/sega if anything. Their games were focused on getting things right, while EA is focused on features and addicting things. That's the difference.

EA is just focused on features and not enough on gameplay and physics. Sega is a great game maker the dream cast and the genesys were great systems. they made the whole sonic series which i loved and an underrated but very fun xbox game called gunvalkye (spelling) EA hasn't made any good games outside of madden and this years installment was dissapointing but i guess its aloowed to be cause they bought out the competition. imagine if sony bought out xbox or vice versa. the one left would suck do to lack of competition.

Your right... EA does just focus on the features of the video game, and doesn't care about the gameplay. When espn tried to fix the gameplay what came out was an even worse game. So why kill what EA has made to make a mistake and destroy the whole entire game like ESPN did.

Espn didn’t destroy it. you got a well balanced game. If u look at my profile I’m about 50% pass and 50% run and undefeated. There is no freak fumbles to cost u a game. The defense isn’t too easy to beat or to hard to score on. Of course the game wasn’t perfect but it was the best game out. now madded is but only by default

Undefeated? That is also why Madden is the better choice if you want reliaism. ESPN has no realisim at all, especially if you are undefeated. If you play Madden you will have a better shot at losing, which oddly I like... lol

Last years ESPN was the best football game ever made and will be the best football game ever made until the NFL Liscense is expired. IT IS 2005 TIME TO FIX A PROBLEM WHICH HINDERED VIDEO GAMES IN 1988! It shows that EA is run by idiots. They put in NFL superstar which is the worst game mode ever. They concentrate on the cool things more than gameplay? Well then they should release a separate game called, "Madden- Football GM 2006" and just have that to be franchise and nfl superstar and anything else where you dont have to play. Mini-camp was pretty cool, I liked it, but MARIO RUNNING RUINS THE GAME. 2k5 had 1 problem last year, that problem was that getting sacks with a good defensive end was too easy. John Abraham recorded over 50 sacks in every league online, it was impossible to stop him and many others like Julius Peppers, Strahan, KGB, etc. But if you simple control another player, like a linebacker or a safety, it becomes fair and even.

DO NOT BRING UP THE WHOLE, "Madden sells more copies it is the best, Madden is in the hall of fame it is the best, Madden has been around longer than sega games it is the best." IT IS A WORTHLESS arguement. Americans are idiots, around 75-80% are. We are a fat and lazy nation. Only reason we are the most powerful nation is because we were created by the smartest generation ever (the enlightment) and after WWII we did not suffer as much as other nations did. My point is people are idiots and buy a game that is overhyped and pays more to advertise. I gave Madden a try, and I probably won't turn it on again.

Best Football game ever? No way. Tecmo Super Bowl is way better then ESPN will ever be. 2k5 had way more then 1 problem in the game, including to the one that you said the game lacked the franchise that Madden has.

When have I ever said that Madden is better because it sells more copies then ESPN, which it does. Fat, and lazy... speak for yourself. You do not have to turn it on again, it is your loss, you can play ESPN 2005 for the rest of your life, because thats all Take Two is selling for a long time.

I am talking strictly gameplay here, not franchise or anything else. And please answer me why EA can't fix a problem that Sega fixed in 2002. Why is it so hard to fix mario running, the only reason why I have a passionate hatred for Madden. Why? I do not think you understand. There is no "is" anymore for this game. ESPN is gone, it is done with for about 10 years. You do not have to take anything I say seriously because honestly I do not care. Because I know Madden is a way better game, and a way better franchise. I have never played Madden 93, I started in 1995. You think being undefeated is what makes a game fun. Yes, if it's hard and you barely win your games. How many times has a team gone undefeated? once, the 1972 Miami Dolphins. So you think it is realistic to go undefeated over, and over again, *beep* that.

Playing the game is what makes it fun. Regardless of winning or losing. I’m just very good at games. I understand 2k is done forever but its not cause madden is better is cause madden got scared of competition and bought it out. so EA basically showed that they though 2k was a better game or they woulnd’t have done that. if u like madden fine. If u think its better fine. Just don’t pass off opinion for fact. Madden has horrible game physics and programming and like the one guy called it Mario wall running. The fact is take out everything and strip it down to gameplay and madden is a horribly flawed game. I was so disappointed in it I won’t buy it for the 360 or PS3 and probably just have to live w/o football games if they don’t improve. And I’ve been playing madden since 93 on sega and followed it from sega to PS1 to PS2 to xbox but when 2k4 came out it was a better game period and 2k5 was waaayyy better. I’ve been palying football since tecmo bowl and NFL for the super Nintendo. Madden was the best for a while but the reighn ended and they bought their way out like a spoiled rich kid

Not real life, you cannot expect to be identical to real life. No video game can be perfect. It is nearly impossible to do that. EA also showed that they were a lot smarter company then ESPN, and Take Two. The only thing that I liked in ESPN was the presentation. Everything else sucked, but who cares, ESPN is gone, and Madden is still here.

So do not forget, you cannot expect it to be perfect, because it is just a video game.

Yeah. It wasso hard to pass in the game, i even once won with all runs. Even if I tried to, I scrambled.

Well I played a few games of madden and found a way around mario running, and thats juking when you run. But the blocking AI on screens and punt returns is horrible. They jsut let the guy go by and get you. There are a lot of plays that don't work at all, but overall I give this game a 6.5-7 out of 10. But still, fixing mario running is not hard, especially since sega did it a long time ago.
