madden 2008 has really brought me back into madden, ill be honest after 07 i was ready to call it quits. however ever since david ortiz has been claiming about GAMEPLAY GAMEPLAY GAMEPLAY!

last year what did that hark about in 07? field degregation! animations! real time weather! well who really gave a flying shyt. i mean that stuff is great but to me a game is judged on gamplay soley.

this year you hear about not graphics, but introductions to STAR PLAYERS a new way to take advantage and create strategies towards your opponent. mid air collisions, gang tackling, no pre snap animations, no hype - just giving the player what he always wanted.

and for you who are going to go with 2k8 i feel sorry for you, because not only will you be playing with almot CG graphics and the New York Lighning. (wtf? mate) but you will be missing on maybe the best madden yet. mix CG gameplay with NG graphics and you get one hell of a game id say.

Madden 07 on the 360 ain't that bad. There are somethings that are whack in it. Like trying to call a hot route its pretty much impossible, and its don't respond very fast trying to take controll of another player. It Madden 08 it looks like they fixed alot of the stuff that was messed up.

Wow good post.. My sediments exactly and again I'm used to be the biggest NG hater. If I can come around then so can y'all. I've tried to flood this thread all the resources possible so you guys wouldn't get into a bind trying to figure what to get or what to do. Just read the blogs and look at the video interviews, look at the gameplay vids. Take a look at the comparison vids Kobeskool posted and make you're assumption.

It's all good though guys. If you don't get it I'll be in here the day of the launch to tell you guys how sick it is. "hopefully"

I thought madden07 on360 was horrible, I bought if for 360 then returned it. I hate how you just throw it deep and everytime its a catch or a TD. Also hate the robot movement, them not having the full franchise mode and all the features in it. The only cool part was the competition thing with 40 times, bench press, 1 on 1 WR drills. Also didnt like how the defense couldnt catch a offensive player. Also that a CB couldnt keep up with a WR at all, no recovery speed. But supposingly these are problems that are all fixed. They are putting back all the features like Franchise mode and that shit, thats good because the 07 madden was a rip off with the lack of stuff you could do in it.
I heard a lot about how they are making the defensive backs play better coverage and make the recovery speed better. Hopefully its better, because I hate when its just 1 play TDs, I want a chess match, I want long drives, defensive games.

That game only looks fun because they are bringing back a lot of hall of famers like Jerry Rice and Mike singletary.

That's the only way they will make it fun too as they don't have the NFL licence so have to go with retired players.

alright, i know im on different system right now but id think shouldnt be too far off in 1 play tds, cus it happens, sometimes more than it should, but def not too much. I definately wouldnt say its unrealistic or that far off. I think I'm gettin a 360 this year for numerous reasons and i only buy sports games now and mostly only football ones, so madden looks sick this year and i like it. Plus i wanna finally kick peeps buts online. It doesnt look that bad, i mean i hate how all the players are extra jacked annd run like robots but its w/e. As long as the gameplay picks up its all good.

and with announcers u rather have madden saying the same thing 50 times a game? "YA SEE HERE, THE RECEIVER DROPPED THE BALL, THEREFORE, IT WASNT CAUGHT FOR A TOUCHDOWN."
santana
like i said before i will instantly know if this game is worth my time the first time i run the ball. if the gameplay is responsive and i dont feel like im floating on water running the ball.. then ill be happy.

I honestly don't understand what you people that insistantly rant about madden expect. I think some of you guys just like to complain and be a hater. Sh!t if you don't like the commentator guy. I sure as hell don't. Turn him off!! No one is making you listen to that if you don't want to. A lot of people hate Micheals and Madden commentating the game. So it's a give and take.

I just don't even know what you people expect. I bet you have no idea it's just not what you "thought" it was gonna be like. Like they could totally redo this game over completely different and you guys would still be ultra haters. You nit pick about the most ridiculous things. It's actually pretty funny.

I'm just puzzled trying to figure out what you expect in a football game. Oh and the reference to 2K8 football?? You'll really realize how madden 08 is light years ahead of 2K8 football. See this is exactly what I'm saying. Already writing off 2K8 as the football gamers savior without even looking at a trailer of 2K8.

But like said I'm not trying to convince anyone at all, to each is own. I don't think madden really gives two sh!ts about fairweather football gamers. So you're small voice is not even heard in the community and I guarentee by the launch of 08 that community of haters and complainers will be even even smaller as more and more make the transition.

Its better then the corny ESPN announcer guy that pisses almost everyone off on the 360 verison. I am talking about in madden for 360 you can bomb it out to your WR and every time its a TD. The CBs cant keep up with the WRs. They had no recovery speed. But that is suppose to be fixed. I can see if you were like going short all game or running the ball then did a play action or simply went deep that it was abig play, but throwing deep everyplay you shouldnt be getting TDs like that everytime, especially with QBs like Chad Pennington.

I guess you cant really argue with those..... I hope Kerry Rhodes is 95 rated in this game, and Vilma is like 94-95.
Coles should be like 92 rated, or anywhere in the 90s. Cotchery should be 88 rated, Chad should be 88. Ahh I will just give the whole team ratings that I think it should be.

QUOTE
The first two Madden games for the current generation of console systems didn't quite deliver that next-generation gameplay or innovation that die-hard franchise devotees were waiting for. Since EA has NFL exclusivity, one could argue that the Madden developers had grown complacent. For the most part, the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of Madden have offered superior gameplay options and more robust feature sets. Things are about to change, however, now that 2K is set to bring some competition with the debut of All Pro Football. The team behind Madden NFL 08 is stepping it up as evidenced by our most recent play time with a demonstration build at EA's E3 Preview event. With true next-generation animation and visuals, significant gameplay enhancements, and the requisite yearly roster update, we're getting our hopes up for this being the best Madden game yet.

The Best Madden Ever?

Producer David Ortiz is determined to get things right, and urged us to ask for anything we wanted in this year's Madden. While the focus in 08 is on getting the gameplay done right, the team is definitely refining areas that need it and bringing in features that have been missing since the transition to next-gen. The animation system has been thoroughly reworked, with far fewer canned animations and more control over your player. The animations he brought to our attention included the new-and-improved gang-tackling and the sideline catches. Watching top-rated receivers make one-armed catches and "dotting the i" to keep both feet in the end zone will make for more exciting big-play action. And now that the game is running at a silky-smooth 60 frames per second, the action is as fast-paced and responsive as you could hope for.

Madden 08 also introduces the concept of "weapons" this year. Every NFL team will have its own weapons, those being the high-profile playmakers that always make the highlight reels on ESPN. The Kansas City Chiefs, for example, will have a potent pair of offensive weapons in running back Larry Johnson and tight end Tony Gonzalez. LJ is a weapon in two different ways, once as a power running back who can bowl people over, but also as a weapon with his potent stiff arm, able to shed would-be defenders. Smart Quarterbacks like Brett Favre (if he doesn't retire) and Peyton Manning are weapons as well, able to break down opposing defenses as a game goes on. This year's New England Patriots look to be particularly dangerous, with multiple weapons on the field, including newly-acquired Randy Moss and media-darling Tom Brady. Defensive superstars like Champ Bailey and Julius Peppers are superstars in their own rights as well, with defensive weapon types ranging from Smart Linebackers to Shutdown Corners.

The franchise mode will be more robust this year as well. You can create custom teams, with player-created uniforms and their own stadium in the city of your choice. Lots of franchise addicts were annoyed at the inclusion of Hall of Fame players in last year's drafts, so you can turn those off this time around. You'll be able to edit your players in order to keep their stats in line with their progress in the NFL, or you can give your home team players the 99 attribute scores that EA clearly overlooked when allocating them (or 100, as in the case of Devin Hester's controversial speed rating.)

You'll be able to take control of the careers of some of this year's rookie class, like Oakland Quarterback Jamarcus Russell, Detroit's latest first-round wideout Calvin Johnson, Minnesota's injury-risk "AD" Adrian Peterson, or the hobbled speedster that Miami decided to pass up on Brady Quinn for in the first round, Ted Ginn, Jr. Hopefully his speed will make up for newly acquired Trent Green's advanced age, at least in the video game world of Madden. You'll also be able to import your Campus Legend from this year's NCAA game. Making a comeback as well is the Owner mode that's been missing from the first two next-gen releases, as well as a fantasy draft.

We didn't get to spend as much time playing Madden NFL 08 as we'd have liked, but such is the nature of these preview events: they're meant to tease us, making us want to come back for more when E3 finally rolls around. We'll definitely try to nail down some more time with Madden next month, when you can look forward to the latest details.

Troy Polamalu 99? Are EA sure about that? The other 99's are justified apart from the Polamalu pick. He should be 96 or 97 IMO.

Madden 08 Weapons Screenshots
Take an advance look at the Madden 08 weapons, including tips on countering each one. Gallery

When the latest iteration of the Madden NFL franchise arrives in August, the Madden faithful will discover a slew of new "weapons" -- 24 to be exact -- at their disposal in their quest for total Madden domination. As one of the most highly anticipated and talked about new aspects of Madden NFL 08, the Weapons feature puts the emphasis squarely on the shoulders of the league's biggest stars.

"Weapons recognize the elite players in the league and reinforces what makes them great," says Matt Read, producer of Madden NFL 08. "Weapons don't just recognize LaDainian Tomlinson as a great running back, but they recognize his incredible elusiveness and sneaky trucking ability. Correctly identifying and utilizing those abilities will transform you into a true Madden powerhouse."

Each of the 24 weapons works on multiple levels. Gamers can feel comfortable playing with different teams because weapons immediately expose a team's playmakers. Ultimate success relies on knowing who the best at what ability is and maximizing the potential on the sticks.

But weapons don't work alone. By combining weapons, gamers can quickly build the perfect West Coast Offense or create a dominating running game. These combinations can be countered with weapon mismatches that expose the other team's weaknesses. Taking advantage of those weaknesses is vital to winning. To become a true football mastermind, the gamer must develop an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the weapons combinations as well as the mismatches.

With 24 different weapons, favorites are bound to develop with each user.

"My favorite weapon is the Big Hitter," says Read. "These guys, backed with the all-new Hit Stick 2.0, dish out the most bone jarring hits, and they have high strategic value since they can upset both the passing and running games.

"Next would have to be Smart Quarterback, which makes it extremely fun to play with Peyton Manning. Smart QBs can read the field, notice openings and opportunities, and expose players/teams who just stick to their money plays. Keep running the same plays and next thing you know, I'm reading your play before snapping the ball."

For a complete rundown of all 24 weapons, including the risks and rewards of each, click here.

Jetsfan0099
I like the new weapon stuff, like Smart QB, Smart Safety, Smart CB, shutdown CB, Possession WR. Its basically making the game more realistic and giving certain players the skills they really have. So it seperates a good player from a great player. I think Vilma should be a smart LB or tackle one. And Kerry Rhodes should be a smart safety, if we have a smart safety and smart LB then that will be cool, because they can counter the offense with making changes on defense. Also it makes the game better, because if someone is using the same defensive play over and over again against Peyton Manning, he will find the weakness and then attack it. Because I play some people that do the same thing over and over again, I like to change up the defense a lot, and get blitzes from everywhere and different coverages, I especially like to blitz with the 3-4.

animations seem a bit forced and tough to play with. they really cop out on some things you see like td celebrations... lofl.. you know what style of gameplay it seems they are shooting for? its more of a chess game. i dont know if its because the players on the field are just amazing but everything seems to be executed like drawn up. could be a fun idea.
