QUOTE
The original entry stated: 'Halo 3, the third game in the best-selling Xbox game franchise Halo, is a highly anticipated first-person shooter video game under development by Bungie Studios for the Xbox 360 and is expected to "set a new high water mark" for next-generation games.' However, a sentence had been added which reads: 'Although it won't look any better than Halo 2.'

Although the edit is time-stamped at 25 April 2007 15:12, just 39 minutes after the original entry was made, it has only recently been discovered that the revision was made by someone at one of Sony's studios. The detective work was made possible by a Wikipedia scanner invented by an American student which makes it easy to see who is editing entries on the site. Wikipedia tracked the page edit to the IP address 217.18.23.2, which routes back to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's studios in Liverpool.

The page has since been restored to its former state and Wikipedia has locked the page from any further edits for the time being. Halo 3 is due for release in the UK on 26 September, but has already broken the record for the fastest selling game ever, topping one million pre-orders in early August

basically they tried trashing the xbox's best selling game on wikipedia. not only is this childish and stupid maybe they should worry about putting out good games instead of trashing xbox's games. i can't think of 1 sony exclusive game thats worth my time. thats why they can't sell systems. it has nothing to do with graphics

I don't know that Assassin's Creed game looked pretty good to me. from the previews I have seen. ( Really don't like PS but might try to bum a friends to play it)

i assume your a PS3 fan?

there is a reaosn why the wii and 360 sell way more then the PS3. FUN FACTOR. throw out graphics, hard drives, blu-ray. HD DVD, 1080P, etc. the PS3 controller is weak and has a weak list of exclusive games

i have both and the console war is beat city.

who really cares which you think is better. its not your money anyway.
sure have to hand it to microsoft. they really know how to grab a market by the balls. over the past year i was amazed to see how many people religiously defended the 360. that company doesnt even have to market... i always wondered why they make bogus jump in commercials that have nothing to do with gaming- its apparently because they have consumers like you doing all their marketing anyway.

so yeah be cool and get a 360- gotta hit up the halo trey with the frat brahs

funny MS has me by the balls?

i got an ipod over the zune
i don't like halo
the commercials are gay
anyway u look at it, playing video games is not cool.

so basiaclly your making false claims and i spend more hours a week clubbing then i do gaming, u know cause MS has me by the balls.

personally i always go for the better product regardless of who makes it.
1st i had a caleco, then a nintendo, then a super NES, then a sega genisis (genisis was better tehn nintendo, tehn i dind't by another nintendo system till the gamecube and i swicthed to sony cause the PS1 was better then dreamcast and teh PS2 when it 1st came out was sick, then the xbox came out and changed everything and i brought that and basically stoped playing everyother system. i don't have much time for games and i odn't liek to waste it and hard earned money on shitty products. so i chose a 360 over a PS3 for that reaosn only. i would liek to get a Wii and it is fun, but its not worth it cause ei don't have time for it.

but then again you should know me better then i know myself right?

false playing video games is cool, just not sexy.
btw microsoft is the best console by far, look at the exclusive titles, live, and accessories.
the ONLY reason i would by a playstation 3 is if the new socom that is coming out is as good as SOCOM 2.

360 over ps3 - 350z over g35c

to each his own... just shaddup about it
recommend me a title and why its good
i could careless about what? some euro edited a 360 wiki? when i read this initial post it felt like you were really going through great lengths to support ur precious 360. it seems that ur nittpicking at another console to make your (what 2 year old?) purchase justified.. its weird. so stop it. if that wasnt ur intention then who cares what liverpool sony division has to say about the halo3 graphics compared to halo2 graphics (got that was exhausting to even type out).

i don't have to justify my purchase. its my money. i've blown 300+ a night on alcohol. if the 360 was a waste i'd sell it for a PS3 and take a hundred dollar loss or so. no big deal.

and i'm 22 and wanted a fsat sports car not an overpriced luxury car thats pretty much the same but 10K plus more. personally its not that big a deal sony did it, but it just shows how low they are creeping to try and trash MS while MS and nintendo focus on quality sony is trying to run a campaign by trashing there opponents. they did it from day one and pissed off a huge publisher who now refuses to work with sony. there plain stupid which is why nobody wants a PS3 but w/e man

not really the xbox360 is gonna do that soon as well as offer TV service soon. but i just brought it cause "its cool" right?

as far as games for all systems. and transformers 2? thats a weak ass game. seriously. most movie games suck.

for the PS3 assasins creed looks hot (its in all systems)

for xbox only games

mass effect
halo 3
bioshock
Ninja Gaiden 2 (not out yet)
Fable 2

to name a few. all of those games are 360 only and they are all better then anything the PS3 has. plus i'm hoping for a jade empire 2 which would be another exclusive too and if anything like the 1ts would be amazing.

personally u don't seem like much of a gamer, you seem to shit on other peoples opinions if they don't agree with you, and you seem like u always have to be right. does that sound about right?

i know mods are supposed to stick together and what not, but using this post as evidence, that seems like a much more accurate description of the way you're acting right now. you're trying to tell the dude he doesn't seem like much of a gamer, while also trying to prove that you have an overactive social life with superior drinking skills.. it just screams "irrelevant," especially given the topic of convo.

i play video games practically every day, and i still think i'm pretty fuckin' cool. i mean, my love for kickin back for a few hours and playin games was enough for my shorty to wanna get in on the action and buy a Wii.

as for the original purpose of the post, I don't know how much we can attribute that Wiki entry to the evil Sony corporation, and not just something foolish that one Sony UK employee did. I'm pretty sure there wasn't a meeting called on it. The corporations don't need to call meetings to slander one another's company's like that, because the fans already do it enough for them.

only reason i don't own a ps3 yet is because there's no games that make me feel like i gotta have it now. the multiplatform games are executed better on the 360, xbox live is superior as well. but i'm not gonna go out of my way to tell people the 360 is better.

its not so much as beating a dead horse (even though i know when they 1st cae out there was alot of this, and i know its like 2 years old and all) but its a matter of seeing somehting funny and posting it. the fact it relates to sony and xbox was just a side effect. if i seen a UPS truck knock over a fed ex truck i would post it too, doens't mean i like UPS better or that i'm trying to prove somehting. its just funny given the circumstances

1) i don't mind a mod calling out another mod. this whole "mode need to stick together stuff" is kinda BS in my opinion. were all supposed to act a certain way on here and mods shoulnd't be above carrying themselves inappropriatly. so if u veer feel i'm acting that way, say it. i got no issues with it. i mean what about jetsohfive? and the BS he pulled as a mod. why should we stick by him just casue he's a mod. i never flex my mod powers or threaten to suspend or ban people (other then kobe in the chatroom lol).
2) when i say playing video games arne't cool its just a matter of public acceptance. ususally the video gamers are nerds and the athletes are the cool ones etc. the act of playing games isn't considered cool, but in no way does it mean everyone that plays them is immediatly not cool.
3) once again the thread was just cause i thought its funny. i don't think sony is evil. the 1st laptop i brought was a sony and i loved it, i've had sone walkmans (remember walkmans lol) sony discman, a PS1, a PS2 i love the spiderman movies (from sony films) so its not like i hate sony or love microsoft. anyone who acts like that in my opinion is stupid. MS aint f***ing me, feeding me, or financing me so why should i be "loyal" to them? if someone comes along and makes a better system i'll be buying that one. i will admit i do love my xbox, but i don't hate the PS3. i could really care less about it.

The failure rate is a fact. plain and simple and microsoft tries to lie about it. my 360 is 2 years old and hasn't even frozen up on me that i could recall. your argument is ridiculous. if you like the console better, then fine -- but to trash the other like you got stock in sony is lame.
yeah, your PSN is free, but it lacks ridiculous things, like capabilities to send messages and invites to players between games? You mean to tell me I can't get an invite from a friend playing CoD4, because I'm on Guitar Hero III.

The exclusive games on PS3 are dope. My girl is likely buying me one in a couple weeks, and I can't wait to cop Uncharted and Warhawk. But when it comes to games that are multi-platform, I gotta be honest -- I'm rolling with the 360 for 2 reasons -- XBox Live and Achievements. The PS3 exclusives are gonna have to step up hard, because for those of us that like achievements and gamerscores and don't really give a shit about this ridiculous war between the 2 consoles, 9 times out of 10, we're gonna roll with the 360's version. Especially those of us who haven't had a red ring'd 360.

As for the Bluray vs HD DVD remarks, it's whatever. At the very least Microsoft didn't force unproven hardware on buyers resulting in a console that cost more than what the average consumer was willing to pay. And if we want the HD experience, we can download full length Hi-Def off the marketplace. I downloaded 300 in HD and it was gorgeous. Microsoft did nothing wrong. When Sony and Toshiba decided they wanted to go to war and make competing formats, they both shitted on the consumer.

In the DVD War Over High Definition, Most Buyers Are Sitting It Out
By ERIC A. TAUB

What if nobody wins the high-definition DVD format wars? That increasingly looks to be the situation for the next-generation DVD technology, which is available to consumers in two incompatible formats.

A little more than 18 months after their introduction, the two systems — Blu-ray, developed by Sony, and HD DVD, from Toshiba — have sold around one million stand-alone players combined. Both sides promote their technologies, their movie studio allies and the growing list of movies available in the new formats.

Yet neither has a clear advantage, either in terms of technology, number of movies or, increasingly, the price of the equipment. According to data from Adams Media Research, 578,000 HD DVD and 370,000 Blu-ray machines will be sold by the end of this year. (NOTE FROM AMEN: PS3 OWNERS WILL SCREAM THAT BLURAY IS KILLING HD DVD)

The winner of the format wars could be determined by which company has the most content, in the same way the VHS-Betamax VCR war was decided. But both formats offer about 400 movies. Studios allied with the Blu-ray camp include Columbia, Disney, Fox, Lionsgate, Miramax, New Line and Sony.

In the HD DVD camp are DreamWorks, Paramount, Universal, the Weinstein Company, and several smaller TV and motion picture companies. Warner Brothers releases movies for both systems.

In November, Howard Stringer, the Sony chairman, publicly acknowledged that the formats were in a stalemate, and predicted that neither side would fold.

High-definition DVDs of both formats provide superior picture and sound quality compared with standard DVDs.

They also offer advanced interactive features like multiple camera angles, games, picture-in-picture commentaries and, in the case of HD DVD, a connection to the Internet to download more content.

But the visual and audio differences depend on the size of the TV screen used to display them.

“You start to enjoy the benefits of high-definition DVD at 40 inches and above,” said Chris Fawcett, vice president for product marketing at Sony Electronics’ home video group.

Only high-definition sets can display high-definition DVD images. And only the highest-resolution displays, the so-called 1080p HDTVs, for progressive scan, can show the images at their best. As a result, the potential customer base is limited. With a lower-resolution 720p set, “you are not as likely to see a dramatic a difference” between standard and high-definition DVDs, according to Andy Parsons, chairman of the Blu-ray Disc Association.

The two camps are victims of their own earlier success with DVD. The standard DVDs offered a quantum leap in quality from the picture and sound of VHS videotape, and for many that was more than adequate.

In addition, DVD players that can convert images to near high-definition quality can be found for under $100, hundreds less than a true high-definition DVD player, further reducing the urgency to upgrade to one of the new formats.

“Today, an HDTV owner hooks up a standard DVD and it looks good,” said Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of HD Strategic Marketing at Universal, and co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group. “Unless they experience the new format, they won’t understand it.”

Not many consumers are interested in even taking a look. According to research by NPD Group, only 11 percent of HDTV set owners strongly intend to buy a Blu-ray or HD DVD player by next spring. Almost three-quarters of those HDTV owners surveyed said that standard DVD was good enough for them.

“This may emerge as a premium, luxury item, not a successor to DVD,” said Ross Rubin, director for industry analysis at NPD.

Blu-ray and HD DVD proponents are doing what they can to change that attitude. And the best technique to pique interest is dropping the price. As with most things electronic, prices for both players have fallen drastically since their introduction.

HD DVD players, the vast majority of which are made by Toshiba, still have the price advantage. The company’s least-expensive model — which displays images in the lower-quality 1080i format — can be found for $200 or less in electronics store promotions or from online discounters.

Its least-expensive 1080p model is selling at Amazon for $250. But it is a tit-for-tat war. A Blu-ray 1080p unit from Samsung is just $30 more at Costco. Blu-ray units are also made by Panasonic, Philips, Sony and others.

Several holiday promotions had players in either version selling for as low as $200.

In an effort to finesse the format war, LG sells a combination unit that plays both formats; however, its $1,000 price has prompted only a few thousand consumers to buy.

As prices drop, high-definition DVD drives will find their way into other devices. Mr. Graffeo predicts that by the end of next year, 5 million notebook computers will be sold with HD DVD drives.

Sony says that 3.4 million Blu-ray disc drives are also in PlayStation 3 machines, giving it a numerical advantage. But the rival camp points out that gamers are not buying the PS3 to watch movies, and in any case, 300,000 HD DVD add-on drives will have been purchased to use with the Xbox 360 game console from Microsoft.

The 400 movies available in each format are a fraction of the 90,000 movies and TV programs that the video rental company Netflix offers. Increasingly, high-definition DVDs are being issued simultaneously with the standard definition DVD release.

Consumers are usually advised to wait until a clear winner emerges. But if there is a deciding factor, it might be which format has the more compelling movies. Good animation looks three-dimensional in high definition, so Sony is hoping to gain an advantage by providing Blu-ray formats of “Ratatouille,” the Disney/Pixar film about a cute French rat who cooks, and blockbusters like “Spider-Man 3.”

As an indication of their owners’ enthusiasm, Blu-ray users are buying twice as many discs as their HD DVD counterparts, according to Tom Adams, president of Adams Media Research.

Discs can be rented at the Blockbuster and Netflix online stores. Of Blockbuster’s 5,000 physical stores, 250 offer both high-definition DVD formats, while 1,450 rent only Blu-ray; the rest offer none. The company emphasizes Blu-ray because 70 percent of its rentals are for that format, said Karen Raskopf, a Blockbuster spokeswoman.

The HD DVD camp is playing up its new interactive features, believing that the next generation of viewers wants to combine TV viewing with video games.

In Universal’s just-released HD DVD of “The Bourne Ultimatum,” viewers can play a game that tests their memories, and then upload their results using a broadband connection to a Web site and compare their scores with others.

Viewers can also find character dossiers, watch “Webisodes” with the Volkswagen Touareg sport utility vehicle featured in the film, and create playlists of their favorite scenes and share them with friends.

Those features will do little to increase sales, said Richard Doherty, an analyst with the Envisioneering Group. The market consultants’ surveys show that just 3 percent of consumers want interactivity, he said.

As more consumers buy HDTVs, and the price of dual format players drop, an uneasy truce may descend. With the studios in the United States collectively making $16.5 billion in worldwide video sales, according to Mr. Adams, companies will be loath to miss an opportunity to make money by allying themselves with one high-definition DVD format over the other. And then, the once-unthinkable could happen.

“When high-definition DVD reaches its tipping point, studios will have to release their movies in both HD DVD and Blu-ray,” Mr. Adams said. “No studio will be able to afford not to.”

my arguement on the systems is ridiculous?..lol its a fact that they have a very very high failure rate. its called reliability and quality. Achievements is ok, that will be on ps3 when home comes out so no big deal as well as ingame messaging. But microsoft messed up by not making a mandatory or standard hdd on each system.. Look at Unreal tournament 3 and the fact they ps3 can do customizable maps.. That wont be on 360 cause u dont have a standard hdd. and that was said by epic games themselves. And the m,ovies are gonna be on ps3 too. How can everyone that owns a 360 dl movies if they all dont have hdds? Youre right its a personal choice and whatever 360 gets sony will get too but we wont have to pay..lol. And the blu-ray format is good because it allows game makers the advantage of putting more info on the disc, about 3 times that of the standard dvd

haha its all good man, i love my ps3 just like people on here love their 360...

its all fine ps3 can cover up there shitty games by a whole bunch of accesories built in, but in all honesty you cant say you are stoked about the ability to use a blue tooth head set the way you would be if gears came to ps3. all those built in wireless capabilities, storage, and power does not make up for the fun of Xbox Live (the best and only way to play online) go ahead and bitch about the 50 dollars anyone, but i spend about 50 a weekend on beer/bud so i could care less.

in all honesty achievements mean alot more to people than you think they actually have a reason to collect all 100 flags in assassins creed or 100% tiger challenge in TW08 they get rewarded for it. friends lists, XBL Marketplace... like a pocket bestbuy. love my 360

yo amen! when are me u and dubb gonna ball on COD?

gears looks much better on my pc then it does on my 360.

ill pass on gaylo and gears..lol Im not into shooting aliens. I'll take me mgs and my socom confrontation(which all u 360 owners will get back on ps for..guraranteed). achievementts mean nothing to me..I play games online for fun and to kick ass not to get flags..srry

the achievement system isn't really about collecting flags, homie. it's about adding replay value to games. i got assassin's creed a month ago and finally got around to beating it earlier this week. After I got the Achievement for completing the game, I made it my business to go back, and replay so I can complete some things I missed -- like kill over 75 guards with throwing knives, or evade capture for 10 minutes, etc. It might sound foolish to you, but on PS3, after you step out and the credits roll, that's pretty much the end of it. there's no added talk with someone on your friends list when you look at their game list and see that you accomplished something in a game that they got nowhere near doing.

you play call of duty 4, so look at it this way -- all the added points you get for challenges towards ranking up add incentive for you to switch up your gun. yeah, you might be nice with the M16, but once you got your 150 kills with it and got all your challenge points, you might wanna do the same with the G36C. you'll keep playing because you'll check your challenges and see that you need 8 more kills with the MP5 to get 500 points towards a new rank. that's what the achievement/gamerscore system is all about.

also, in a game like rainbow six where you get achievements for hitting certain ranks online, you get to see who cheated and who's legit. if someone got the Elite badge, but not the Best of the Best achievement, you know they glitched it.

i read in GameInformer magazine earlier this year with the editor pleading with Sony to make moves to get something like that done on their console. it doesn't cost the developer's anything extra to accommodate achievement statistics.

I said in a diff post that there is an achievement like system coming to ps3 when home comes out. I dont really care for it, it makes no difference to me either way. I played s2 for 4 years and thats one the most replayed online games ever and it has no achievements.
